Kid's Furniture

Kid's furniture and kid's bedroom furniture have so many dynamic options these days that it's good to be informed as to what is available for you to purchase for your growing child or children! The right kid's furniture and kid's bedroom furniture will provide style, comfort, and fit the learning and safety needs of children who are growing and developing. With so many different pieces, options, and styles, it is good to have a little background on what you can expect to find when looking for children's' furniture and bedroom furniture.

Let's start with the needs of the youngest group who need baby furniture. Baby furniture includes such items as baby cribs. These are small comfortable beds designed to restrict the baby to the bed. Toddler beds, a small bed that has small sides on each side and is not fully enclosed. Baby cradles, a small bed, often on rockers, in which babies and small children sleep. Changing table or changing stations, which is a small raised platform designed to allow a person to change a baby's diaper. The changing station provides all the drawers and compartments you would need to assist you in the diaper changing and cleaning process that is needed. High chairs, which is are pieces of furniture used for feeding older babies and younger toddlers. With the high chair the seat is raised so that a person of adult height may spoon-feed the child comfortably from a standing position. There is a tray which is attached to the arms of the high chair, which allows the adult to place the food on it for either the child to pick up and eat or for the food to be spoon fed to them. High chairs typically have seat belts to strap the child in. Rocking chairs and baby crib mattresses are also popular. With so many different styles to choose from you will be able to find different pieces of baby furniture that will match each other and also add to the decor and beauty of your child's room that could also fit with the over all decor of the house!

As your child grows, he or she will have different needs and different furniture will be needed. One popular item that kids seem to love as part of their bedroom furniture are bean bags! Bean bag chairs are a popular form of furniture made of fabric and filled with small chunks of styrofoam or PVC pellets. They were hugely popular during the late 1960s and early 1970 and their popularity resumed to this day!

Another item fairly unique and very popular to kid's furniture is the bunk bed! A bunk bed is a type of bed in which one bed is stacked on top of another. The nature of bunk beds allows two people to sleep in the same room while maximizing available floor space. Bunk beds are great for dormitories, hostels, and especially children's rooms! They normally are supported by four poles at each corner of the bed. To get to the second bunk a ladder is used, though taller children often find other faster, more creative methods of climbing into them. The top bed is normally surrounded by a railing to prevent the sleeper from falling out. Because of the need for a ladder and the height of the bed, the top bunk of a bunk bed is not recommended for children under six years of age. Bunk beds are great for maximizing sleeping space while giving your children more floor space for other other activities or for other furniture to fit in the room!

If there is no need for more then one sleeper but there still is the need for more space, the loft bed is also a great choice. Like the bunk bed, a child can sleep in an elevated position which can be practical and fun for the child at the same time! A loft bed is a bunk bed that has only the top bunk. This creates an open space underneath that can be occupied by a chest, drawers, or even a work area. Loft beds are an efficient use of small spaces by utilizing the entire vertical area that would otherwise be left unused. Some loft beds are more expensive than bunk beds due to built-in storage capacity and other features.

Child beds or kid's beds come in so many different styles or shapes that there are really so many options to choose from! Whether it is a bed that looks like a smaller version of an adult bed or a bed that is shaped like a race car, there are really so many different options out there! Another option with many children's beds are the trundle beds. Trundle beds are usually considered a pair of beds with one slightly smaller than a twin bed that is on rollers so that it may be put beneath the upper twin bed for storage. Trundle beds allow for two separate beds to be available when necessary, but do not require the space constantly. It is a space-saving idea. The lower bed on some trundle beds can "pop-up" to be the same height as the bed they are stored beneath, creating a larger bed that may be used for guests. Often used as daybeds, trundle beds are less common than bunk beds for children. Due to storing one bed beneath the other, neither bed usually has a box-spring. Also popular is the daybed. Daybeds are used as beds as well as seating. They can be made out of wood, metal or a combination of wood and metal. Wooden daybeds are appropriate for a rustic look, while metallic ones exude an urban air. They are a cross between chaise lounge, sofa and a bed; they are a practical and artistically appealing decorating solution. In the past, they were mostly used in guest rooms or teenagers' rooms, but now they are enjoying a revival in smaller kid's rooms!

Another great addition to your child's bedroom furniture decor are classroom furniture pieces! These are great for adding to a positive atmosphere that will encourage a child to want to learn and feel comfortable doing it. Things that are great learning devices are wooden wall letters and shapes, easels for drawing or painting. Play tables, bookshelf's, chairs, desk, computer desk, and art supply carts are all great additions to your child's bedroom. With so many different styles to choose from you will be able to find different pieces of educational furniture that will add to your child's ongoing learning experiences!

Doll houses have been popular forever! A dollhouse is a toy home made miniature. Today's doll's house traces its history directly back about four hundred years to the "baby houses" of Europe. The first doll houses were considered off-limits to children because they were considered adult entertainment. Today doll houses are a little girl's dream gift! With so many different styles of houses to choose from, there is sure to be the right doll house for your child that fits all criteria when it comes to beauty that your child will love and its decor in fitting in with other furniture in the house and child's room.

Another popular item found in many kids bedrooms are educational toys! An educational toy is a toy designed to teach children, about a certain subject or help them learn a skill as they play. Educational toys are a great way to merge play with learning in a fun way. Examples include wooden wall letters, children's tool sets, play kitchens, activity sets or centers, magnet boards, money boxes or cash registers, train sets, building blocks, animal toys, and puzzles!

Kid's accent furniture also adds so much to any child's bedroom and makes a room complete. Colorful accents are excellent to any room adding beauty, style, and decor. Examples of kid's accent furniture include kid's chairs and seating, coat racks, floor lamps, growth charts, ottomans, step stools, toy boxes, a potty chair, kid's vanities, and toy storage! For older kids video chairs are great too!
